Frequently Asked Questions

Race to End Duchenne is the endurance fundraising program of Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. We provide runners at all levels with entry into racing events across the country in exchange for their fundraising efforts in the fight against Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Since 2005, Race to End Duchenne has raised over $15 million from these events.

PPMD is here to guide you through your race experience, from the day you sign up to the moment you cross the finish line and beyond. As a member of the Race to End Duchenne Team, we’ll be supporting you every step of the way just as we are supporting those living with Duchenne.

But it’s not just about the race. By joining our Race to End Duchenne Team, you’re also making an important commitment to the fight against Duchenne. We assure you that the money you raise will help improve lives. Your efforts will fund research into promising treatments, advance our advocacy efforts in Washington, provide support for families, and help us ensure access to approved therapies. Whether or not you have fundraising experience, don’t stress we have helpful resources, tips, and suggestions that will help you meet (and hopefully exceed!) your goals.

As a member of the Race to End Duchenne team, you’ll enjoy a number of benefits, including:

  • Official Race to End Duchenne technical shirt and t-shirt
  • A personal fundraising page and ongoing fundraising support
  • Invitations to our private team gathering during race weekend
  • The opportunity to connect virtually with other team members
  • Frequent training tips
  • A dedicated staff person to answer all of your questions
  • The knowledge that you are giving hope to those living with Duchenne

Race to End Duchenne Team members commit to raise funds to help improve the lives of those living with Duchenne. We’ve established realistic fundraising goals for each race, and we provide the tools you’ll need to make it easy and fun. Think of your Race to End Duchenne participation as your personal stake in the fight against Duchenne. It’s an opportunity for you to join the fight and to get your family and friends involved in a cause you’re passionate about. You’ll be amazed at the support you’ll receive!

As a member of the Race to End Duchenne Team, we’re counting on you to fulfill your event’s stated fundraising minimum. That’s why, if you don’t reach your goal, you will be required to make a personal donation by the fundraising commitment due date to fulfill the balance. But don’t worry, raising money is way easier than you think! People love to support runners going the distance to help an important cause, so this shouldn’t be a problem for you. Be sure to take advantage of the many tools and tips we offer to help you meet your fundraising goals.

We provide you with a personal fundraising page, sample emails and letters, fundraising tips, and ongoing staff support to make sure you meet your goal. Once they get started, most of our runners find it’s easier than they thought to meet and exceed their goal!

Absolutely. Whether you are a novice or an experienced runner, our Training Tips page will help you to find out about training at your level.

Keeping track of your fundraising is easily done in your Classy Fundraising Page! Once you are logged into your Participant Center, click on the Progress tab to see a list of your donors and your fundraising progress. You can also change your fundraising goal here by clicking “change” just underneath your goal amount.

Go directly to your Fundraiser login page or go to RaceToEndDuchenne.org and sign in at the top of the page using your username and password that you created when you registered.

When mailing checks please include the runner’s name and the race they are participating in, so we know where to credit the donation. Checks may be sent to:

Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy
1012 14th Street NW, Suite 500
Washington, D.C. 20005

Please do not send cash in the mail or convert cash donations to your personal checks. To comply with IRS guidelines, we can only receipt the donor who wrote the check. Please ask any supporters who want a tax receipt to donate directly to your fundraising page, write us a check themselves, or call us with their credit card number.

PPMD will add any offline gifts we receive to your page as soon after we receive them as possible. Check your page regularly to see if new donations have been added. If there is ever a question about an offline donation, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Yes! Many of our runners form teams and fundraise together. It’s fun and helps to motivate team members! Teams that fundraise together are responsible for the combined fundraising minimums of each member of the team (for example if a team has 5 members and the fundraising minimum is $1,000 per person, the team must collectively raise $5,000).

We do! Please visit our Corporate Sponsorship page to find out more.

Donations to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy are deductible to the extent provided by law. For your records, our EIN#: 31-1405490.
