FUNDRAISING TIP: DON’T BE AFRAID TO SELF-PROMOTE
You know when it is good to brag?
When you’re doing something good for others and your success depends on how many people know you’re doing it!
You’ve signed up for a marathon, you’re spending a considerable amount of free time running…and running…and running. So do yourself and your fundraising goal a favor and self-promote, promote, promote!
Here are a few easy things you can do to ask for support:
- Send an Email: After you’ve sent your fundraising page to your family and close friends to get things rolling, send a mass email to everyone you know. Even if you haven’t spoken to them in a few years, you’ll be surprised at how many people will want to donate when they find out what you’re doing and why. And if you don’t ask, they won’t know!
- Use Social Media: Post a link to your fundraising page on your Facebook page, Twitter account, or other social networking outlet once or twice a week. This maximizes the chance that everyone you’re linked to will see it at least once.
- Hand Out Business Cards: They work in business, so why not in fundraising? Sites like Vistaprint offer quality products at low prices. Or make your own with some card stock and markers! It doesn’t have to be fancy, it just has to contain the necessary info. Work your fundraising efforts into every conversation possible and hand out a card that tells people exactly where and how to donate to you. The easier it is for people, the more likely they’ll be to donate.
- Customize Your Email Signature: Insert a link to your page into the signature of your personal email account. This way every email that you send will automatically contain info about your fundraising efforts. Put it in context by prefacing it with something like this (and don’t forget to include the link to your page!):
