FUNDRAISING TIPS
Now that you’ve made the commitment to join the Race to End Duchenne Team, you may be wondering how to get started with your fundraising.
The secret is to ask early and ask everyone. Ask friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors. Talk to local businesses. You can even donate to yourself.
Don’t think of it as a handout. You’re giving people an opportunity to contribute to a real and worthy cause. Answer any questions they may have or direct them to our website. Let them see for themselves the difference their contributions make in the fight to end Duchenne.

10 FUNDRAISING TIPS FOR SUCCESS:
- Print out a few donation forms: Carry them with you — you never know when you’ll run into someone who might want to sponsor you!
- Personalize your fundraising page: People will be inspired to support you when they learn why you are running.
- Use social media: Post a plea for support on Facebook, Twitter or other social networking sites that you use. It’s the easiest way to reach a ton of people in your life!
- Start a blog: By sharing your journey as you train for your race, you’ll make people feel like they are on the journey with you, and they’ll be inspired to give.
- Hold an event: It could be as simple as a car wash or a bake sale, or more elaborate like as a golf tournament; events are a great way to raise funds in a relatively short amount of time. Be sure to check out our fundraising policy about applying grassroots event funds to endurance fundraising minimums before you get started.
- Create videos: Document your experiences through video and let your supporters view your journey.
- Wear body art: Who says you can’t wear your fundraising heart on your sleeve…or your arm…or your leg – or wherever else you want to? Be a walking billboard and raise big bucks!
- Pursue matching gifts: Matching gifts are one of the easiest ways to increase your fundraising total.
- Make a last ditch effort: It’s never too late to send out one last request for support, and we’ve provided a template to make it super easy.
- Don’t be afraid of self-promotion: You know when it is good to brag? When you’re doing something good for others and your success depends on how many people know you’re doing it! Do yourself and your fundraising goal a favor and self-promote, promote, promote.
